Libyan desert glass is believed to have been formed when an asteroid, comet or large meteor hit the earth’s surface. The extremely high temperatures of this even melted the sand and basically turned it to a natural type of glass. Our Libyan desert glass specimens are available in many different shapes and sizes and come from the western desert of Egypt. The clarity and colors vary - some are gemstone quality and others are more opaque. We have natural samples as well as cut gemstones, pendants and more. Click on one of the images or descriptions below to get complete details on each specimen.
